Drumlanrig Castle - This gorgeous castle we visited on our last day in Scotland, it is beautifully preserved. There were many incredible works of art on display here, including a Rembrandt. In 2003 thieves stole a Leonardo da Vinci, which has not yet been recovered.

Sweetheart Abbey - founded in 1273 by Lady Devorgilla of Galloway in memory of her late husband John Balliol. Click on the link if you would like to read further info. A beautiful, beautiful ruin...
We were told that this is how the word Sweetheart originated...she carried her husband’s heart around in an ivory and silver box until she died, claiming that this was her ‘sweet heart’.

Threave Manor and Gardens
Eye candy for garden lovers, this was a gorgeous place, we took tons of photos of flowers!

Walking through a lovely forest blanketed with bluebells, (of which Scotland is famous for),
just so lovely!

The rear view of the castle we stayed in. Incredible experience!

A lovely pastoral scene...goodness, we saw so many sheep and cows!

Threave Castle - We didn’t get to go through this one, but just to see it...it was so picturesque! This was a stronghold of the Black Douglas’s.

A serene sunset on our first night in Scotland.

Another shot of Caerlaverock Castle - peeking through the tree limbs.
This castle really fascinated us!

A grand old tree, the outstretched spread of its limbs was awesome....just incredible!

Dundrennan Abbey - We could see this beautiful old ruin from our host’s house.
On 15 May 1568 Mary Queen of Scots spent her last night on Scottish soil here, the next morning she boarded a fishing boat for Workington in England and for imprisonment and her eventual execution.
